SCRIPTURE
Luke 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.
INTRODUCTION
In Luke 10, we meet a family we know well: Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. Though they were siblings, each related to Jesus differently. One was absent, another distracted, and one chose the better part — sitting at His feet.
This story reminds us of eternity. One day, we will forever be with the Lord — worshipping Him, beholding His face, and serving Him day and night. If that is our eternal calling, how much more should we practice being at His feet while here on earth?
Some get entangled in busyness. Some fall at the feet of angels or even men, but Mary shows us the true place of blessing: at the feet of Jesus.
The devil cannot touch the one who stays at the feet of Christ. That is where transformation, healing, and power are found.
A. AT HIS FEET, WE RECEIVE HIS WORD
Deuteronomy 33:3 Yes, He loves the people; All His saints are in Your hand; They sit down at Your feet; Everyone receives Your words.
Mary’s desire was to listen. Others in the house were distracted, but she found life in the words of Jesus.
Israel gathered manna each morning to be sustained. We must gather God’s Word daily to be strengthened.
Distractions like smart devices, sleep, and even criticism can rob us of His voice. If we come with desire, like Sergius Paulus in Acts 13:7, the Lord will always have a word for us. His Word gives life, sustains our spirit, and transforms our hearts.
B. AT HIS FEET, WE EXPERIENCE CONVICTION
Luke 7:38 and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil
Hearing is not enough. Sitting at His feet brings conviction. When the Word pierces our hearts, it reveals sin and calls us to repentance. Like the woman in Luke 7:38, who wept at His feet, we are moved to humility and transformation.
Pharisees heard but were never changed. But Peter, at His feet, cried out: “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” (Luke 5:8)
At His feet, pride melts away, and the Spirit convicts us, shaping us into Christ’s likeness.
C. AT HIS FEET, WE INTERCEDE FOR OUR CHILDREN
Mark 7:25 For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet
Parents, there is power when we fall at Jesus’ feet for our children.
The Syrophoenician woman pleaded for her daughter at His feet (Mark 7:25). Jairus, the synagogue ruler, begged for his little girl at His feet (Luke 8:41).
If your children are wandering, rebellious, or oppressed by unseen battles, bring them to the feet of Jesus in prayer. He is faithful to deliver, restore, and give life.
D. AT HIS FEET, WE FIND HEALING
Matthew 15:30 Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed… and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them.
Healing flows from His presence. Sometimes one word from Him is enough. Like the centurion in Matthew 8, we say, “Only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.”
At His feet, Hezekiah received a word of life and was healed. At His feet, we too can receive that one word that restores our body, mind, and soul.
E. AT HIS FEET, WE SHOW GRATITUDE
John 12:3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with costly oil. Her brother Lazarus was brought to life. Her gratitude filled the house with fragrance.
Gratitude keeps miracles flowing. Many forget to thank Him after healing or breakthrough. But when we fall at His feet with thanksgiving, nt nly us, even others are blessed through our testimony.
Ungratefulness hardens the heart, but gratitude opens the door for greater blessing. Let us be a people who daily say: “Lord, thank You for saving me, healing me, providing for me, and keeping me.”
CONCLUSION
To sit at Jesus’ feet means
- To listen to His Word.
- To allow conviction and transformation.
- To intercede for our children and families.
- To find healing in His presence.
- To show deep gratitude.
If we worry when a friend doesn’t call for ten days, how much more should we be concerned if we have not heard from God for weeks?
Beloved, cultivate the practice of sitting at His feet. There you will hear His Word, find life, experience change, see healing, and live with gratitude. One day, when the trumpet sounds, only those who have learned to hear His voice will be ready.
Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
Let us, like Mary, choose the better part — to sit at the feet of Jesus.
